SCL defy the "Power Shift" to claim league title
It was the tightest league finish in modern years but the SCL achieved the impossible and took the 2013 Southampton and District Championship 1 league title in style.
The opening game of this campaign saw a much improved Eastleigh Rail team, notably due to the arrival of Paul May, visit the finest green in Hill Lane. It was however the seasoned front runners SCL who came out comfortably on top, dropping just a single point in a 7-1 triumph. The next 2 games saw SCL face arguably the next best teams in the league Banister and Fleming with 7.5-0.5 and 8-0 wins respectively - both away from home, setting the bar to a very high standard, picking up 22.5 points from 24 in what was the toughest start possible. It was at this point that SCL hosted Old Green who were bottom of the table and had not yet won a single rink - and managed to lose 2.5-5.5 by 1 shot overall. News of this result travelled around faster than when Neil Armstrong landed on the Moon.
Follands away and Brockenhurst home were next up, and wins of 7-1, 8-0 steadied the boat ahead of a trip to Woolston - where a last bowl overall victory by 1 saw the SCL snatch a 6-2 win in what was proving a difficult green to visit for opposing teams. With SCL heading the league by a handful of points the crunch game would now appear to be the visit to Eastleigh Rail. A very tight game which swung around 15 shots over the last few ends saw a 1-7 defeat for the SCL which cut the lead to 1.5 points. A 6.5-1.5 home victory against Banister kept up the pressure although on the same night Railway won 7-1, the SCL now topping the league by a point. The big turning point, Eastleigh Rails joy and David Briers big smile came the following week as the SCL lost to Fleming Park 2-6 in another game decided by a single shot, while Railway won 7-1 at Brockenhurst.. This result put the Eastleigh team 4 points ahead and had dramatically changed the shot difference in the process as they won by 37. The next week a noble 8-0 win away at Old Green was to be of little difference that night as Railway won 8-0 themselves at Woolston. With 3 games to go the SCL were still 4 points behind and now 41 shots which at this point gave Railway a bonus point to play with. Nothing but maximum points at home to Follands and away at Brockenhurst would take the challenge into the last game - so that's what the trendsetters went and did! two 8-0 victories put pressure on Eastleigh Rail who only won their fixtures 7-1 and 6-2 over that fortnight, closing the gap to a point but in addition SCL had now reversed the shot difference and held a 9 shot advantage. With SCL hosting Woolston and Railway visiting Fleming Park a tight finish was sure to be on the cards and the final evening lived up to the expectation! As the SCL veteran Colin Threhser dominated his rink to a 30 shot win, with comfortable wins on 2 more, 7 points were in the bag and the shot difference deemed well and truly secured, news reached the Centre that Railway had already dropped a rink, meaning snatching the remaining rink playing would secure the title. It was not to be for now though as a great effort from Richard Shelley - trying to make a 3 to win - missed by the smallest of margins and Woolston took the last point. With 2 rinks still playing at Fleming the SCL now needed Fleming to take just 1 for the title. As news filtered through via the SCL unnamed source a gathering of 16 grown men could be found outside the SCL changing room listening to a mobile on speakerphone! It was to go right to the wire as Railway took the first of the remaining rinks while the other started its 21st end. The Fleming Rink skipped by Andy Anderson led Mick Barrett by 2 shots but found themselves 3 down at the death, it was then the moment of difference came - Anderson drawing the shot, Barrett having just 1 bowl to play. Cheers could then probably be heard as far down Hill Lane as the central train station when the magic words came from the voice of our unnamed source "He's pulled it" meaning Railway won 6-2, we finished level on points, but that key shot difference the SCL had worked so hard on ultimately won us the league, it has been dubbed "The Aguero moment" in local press and social media. Without doubt this is SCL finest league title in history eclipsing even the undefeated season of 2011 - particular the 31 out of 32 points taken when the chips were down. Well done everyone who played their part over the year, 25 people in total on the green and every other member, friend or family who supported and watched off the green - an incredible achievement!

Keat and Shelley retain Open Pairs Title
2 in a row! Keat (Left) and Shelley
Another successful week for the SCL saw John Keat and Richard Shelley defend their Southampton Open pairs title, while Shelley also made the semi-final of the singles.
The Pair glided their way to the title with early round wins over Fleming Park and Atherley pairs before defeating colleague Jody Bright with Chris Rolph of Sussex in the Quarter-final. The Semi-final offered a tough game against Kent's Michael Cheeseman and Malcom De Sousa of Jersey in which they rolled out victors by 1 shot. The Final proved a very one sided game in which they were comfortable winners 22-5 against Cummins and Gould of Mayfield Park. Shelley narrowly lost his singles Semi-final 21-19 to John Dalton of Popes Mead Bowling Club who ultimately went on to win the title 21-14 with his big swinging bowls.

SCL stars prepare for Southampton Open
Last year the SCL once again dominated the Southampton Open Bowls Tournament, carrying off the pairs and triples titles whilst having a runner up, losing semi-finalists and several losing quarter-finalists. This year a selection of the groups finely tuned athletes will be competing for silverware once more and return from the pre tournament training camp in Australia later today.
John Keat and Richard Shelley will be aiming to retain their pairs title while defending triples champions Pete D Ward and Pat Lawson will this year be joined by Steve Saunders in place of Jersey talent Ross Davis. Ward will this year partner his son Pete M Ward in the pairs and it is rumoured at a recent family meeting that it was decided the more talented family member should skip - Ward snr came out on top at 8 votes to 1. This switch has prompted SCL Director of Fashion Development Antony Nixon to take legal action against Ward as he apparently should have been skipping last year based on that very theory. Lawson has also made in roads to take the pairs title as he teams up with Warwickshire's national singles champion Tom Bishop, while son Jamie who joined the SCL this year is also in the pairs with Ross Davis brother Greg. Shawn Nash, a twice losing semi-finalist in the pairs since winning it in 2010 will be looking to go a couple better again and joins forces with Cove's player of the year 2012 Nick Hardy, while competing with his usual triple alongside Dave Deighton of Old Green and Eastleigh Railway's Brian Barber. Unfortunately for Nash a new SCL ruling implicated this year states that any bowlers who enter a competition with Eastleigh Rail members is deemed as "fraternising with the enemy" and carries a £500 on the spot fine along with 3 points on your SCL licence. Phil Hunt aka Single-H last years losing quarter-finalist in the singles will be aiming for glory again, he joins KCM in the pairs and they pair together again in the triples with Ken Prior. Many SCL honorary members will also be in action such as seasoned competitor Kevin Le long from Jersey and this year Chris Rolph from Sussex, although both have been unfortunately lumbered with our CEO Jody Bright in the pairs and triples respectively. The SCL are also the bookies 2/5 favourites to be the most sociable group over the whole week which would be the 61st year in a row they have achieved this accolade.

Aldren takes 2 wood title in week of mixed fortunes
To the Moon and back - SCL's Aldren
SCL star Buzz Aldren carried of the Bowls Hampshire 2 wood title this past week in what was a busy last 8s for the SCL with 2 other finalists.
In the fours on Monday the rink of Keith Charbit-Middleton, Trevor Bailey, Mathew Smith and Richard Shelley easily saw of the challenge of their opponents from Pelhams before another solid win saw them defeat Southsea Waverley in the afternoon and book their spot at Worthing. Our other rink of Shawn Nash, Phil hunt, Jody Bright and Simon Doig also got of to a flying start disposing of Aldershot Traction first but a 3 shot defeat against Boscombe Cliff in the afternoon would spelt the end of this years journey. It wasn't to be again in the triples on Tuesday for Nash, Bright and Doig who looked in control the whole game against Fareham only to slip to a 4 shot defeat over the closing ends.
Wednesday saw the pairs where legends Tony Nixon and Pete Ward were defending their title. Two convincing wins against Bridgemary and Aldershot Traction booked their place back at Worthing but they then unfortunately lost the final to Boscombe Cliff. Ward also competed in the singles on Thursday but suffered a first game exit at the hands of Coves Chris Cranham.
It was the Spaceman Buzz Aldren aka Michael who carried of our first title of the summer on Friday with 3 straight wins over Mel Sallis (Alton Social) John Biggs (Southsea Waverley) and Chris Daniels (Boscombe Cliff) to land the 2 wood singles title in style. The final of the fours has been put back to This coming Sunday 28th July involving KCM, Bailey, Smith and Shelley - news to follow. The SCL have also made the Hampshire Finals day of the County Club KO after beating Atherley at Banister Park to finish of the week, this will take place on Sunday 4th August at Atherley with games at 10am and then potentially 2pm. Last 8s Results 2013
Last 8s delight for the SCL
Over the last couple of weeks SCL stars have been battling it out in area finals across Southampton to reach the Bowls Hampshire last 8's and the hope to ultimately book a trip to Worthing. In the six area finals SCL players were involved we came out on top in every one.
In the two bowl singles the SCL Director of Finance Buzz Aldren has made his second successive county finals in the event with a 16-15 win over Fleming Parks Alan Forrest. Aldren just got over the line after leading most of the game by a small margin but Forrest made a late surge to take the game to 15-15 only for Aldren to take the last end. In the four bowl Pete Ward who is no stranger to the last 8s particularly in the singles booked his spot with a 21-13 victory over Old Greens Terry Whitear having overcome 2011 Champion Ray Long in the previous round.
The pairs saw our reigning champions: Director of Fashion Development Tony Nixon and Ward dominate their game against Fleming Park duo Andy Herring and Andy Anderson who conceded with ends to spare. The triples saw a 22-7 win for Food and Beverage Director Shawn Nash, CEO Jody Bright and Simon Doig who overcame more Fleming Park opposition in Adam Smith, Steve Spreadbury and Alan Forrest whom they also met in the fours alongside Phil Hunt aka single H winning that contest the week before by 6 shots. They will be joined in the fours by Keith Charbit-Middleton, Trevor Bailey, Colin Thresher and Richard Shelley who enjoyed a strong win over the Eastleigh Rail quartet of Bernie Love, Jason McLean, Jim Wood and Mick Barrett. Public Relations Director Mathew Smith who has played as a sub in a previous round will be playing for Colin Thresher at the last 8s stage. Hopefully the SCL can push on from here and all make their respective final. The last 8s will start with the Fours on Monday 15 July, followed by the triples Tuesday, Pairs on Wednesday and Singles on the Thursday. Friday will be the Finals day, 3rd place play-offs and the two bowl singles.

Investigation to begin on Smith singles claims
South Clevedon Police are to begin investigating the shocking possibility that Mathew Smiths Clevedon Open Singles title may have been in the "consolation" competition.
Back in 2010 Smith returned to the Southampton area from Clevedon with claims he had won the singles tournament and indeed presented a photo of him receiving the trophy from all time legend David Bryant.
However new evidence has been presented following an e-mail received by Antony Nixon from a local player suggesting the victory came in the consolation competition after a first round in the main tournament to a local club bowler. The claims were dismissed completely by Smith who had this bold statement to make on Facebook:
Mathew Smith - Haha. Such a bull shitter. I will not bite antony. No fish to be caught here.
If the allegations are proven it could threaten Smiths position as the SCL number 1 in the Order of Merit. With the tournaments points taken away and replaced with consolation level points, Smith would drop to number 2 and Pete Ward would be confirmed as the new SCL number 1. More to follow as it happens.

Zola aka Phil Mills signs for SCL in 5 year deal
Done deal - Mills and Nixon
After nearly 10 years of constant pressure, Zola aka Phil Mills has finally taken the plunge to have a crack at outdoor bowls and this past weekend signed a 5 year 18 can-a-week deal with the SCL.
Having been a glamourous figure in the short mat game for 20 years, an international and a past national singles champion Mills stated "this is the real highlight of my bowls career, a moment when you just stop and think.......yeah this is for me, i'm a legend - so are these guys".
During his induction at the SCL on Sunday morning with CEO Jody Bright, Mills showed signs of making the transformation to the outdoor game quickly including taking the shot on one particular end. He was then presented with his new team shirt by Director of Fashion Development Antony Nixon (right) who then used his expert sales technique he learnt in the fruit and veg trade to sell Zola a club jacket albeit that Mills pegged the price down by £1 because the jacket does not have his initials on.
Finally Mills discussed his combination debut with selector Phil Hunt when stating "I'm available" to which Phil replied "well......your in then". The Mills debut will occur at Banister Park on April 30th at 6pm, tickets are available on the new SCL Hotline 0845 675 675 starting at just £47.50.

National Title for Pete's sake...he's only gone and done it!!
National Number 1 - Ward and crew
SCL Legend and current number 2, Ringwood "Man of the Year 2006", 7th in Bowls Internationals "Sexiest Man in Bowls 2011", the new face of Just for Men and now National Indoor Fours Champion 2013! The rollercoaster is truly riding for Pete Ward.
A member of the Bournemouth club indoors Ward carried off the title alongside Lee Croad, Michael Hutley and Chris Daniels at the National Championships in Nottingham. It was two very narrow victories in the last 32 and last 16 - the opening game saw the quartet defeat Blackpool Newton Hall 15-14 before an equally tight contest against Desborough where an 18-17 verdict saw them into the quarter finals, they then defeated Falcon 21-17 to reach the last 4. The semi-final was another tight as can be contest as they sneaked past Malvern Hills Shaun Jones, Mark Atkins, Luke Harwood and Ryan Atkins 18-17. A very tough final on paper then ironically proved to be the most comfortable game of the entire campaign. Torquay Utd's Joe Melmore, Graig Down, Griff Sanders and England skip Jamie Chestney really felt the force of Ward as he and his rink cruised to a 23-10 win, the prestige of a National title and £1.85 each in prize money.
For Ward this has been coming for many years, just last year losing narrowly in the Indoor pairs final to the highly decorated duo of Nicky Brett and Greg Harlow, while he has been close indoor and outdoor on several other occasions. The impressive list boasts two Finals the other coming in the outdoor fours, 2 semi-finals and 9 quarter-finals with countless other National qualifications in various competitions over the last two decades, notably winning the National mixed fours and making two other finals.
Unfortunately for Pete the victory carries no points for the SCL Order of Merit as it is an indoor competition, but the confidence boost will now surely have him snapping at the heels of SCL Number 1 Mathew Smith. Executive Director of SCL Talent Relations Barry Hearn earlier stated "I knew signing the boy Ward on a long term deal was a good move, I spotted some real class within and the extra cannage is now fully justified as is the Glayva and Limoncelli he requested".
It is now just 1 month until Ward and the SCL will begin a summer campaign with a crunch clash against Eastleigh Railway at the Centre, a match being dubbed by critics as "The Perfect Storm".

Bowls England Trial Re-Ward for Pete
Ward: Grey Then. Grey Now.
SCL number 2 and Ringwood "Man of the Year 2006" Pete Ward has received a well deserved England trial for the upcoming outdoor season. Ward, pictured right after reaching the National fours final with Ringwood has been a regular at Worthing over the years, his most recent successes being reaching a pairs semi-final with SCL Director of Fashion Development Antony Nixon and also the last 8 of the singles. These acheivements have been rewarded with the trial spot and he will line up at 3 in a rink to Kents Perry Martin - the rink also includes Hampshires Tom Bishop at lead, his prize for carrying off the national singles title last summer.
It has been a tough approach to the season so far for Ward who lost his SCL Number 1 spot in the Order of Merit to form bowler Mathew Smith, but that slip has made Ward more determined than ever to push on and succeed: "this season its my aim to get that number 1 spot back, dropping to 2 was a shock to the system but fair play to young Mathew - he is a talent to behold". The SCL wish Pete all the best and fingers crossed this is his year, a place in that team is long overdue! SCL members use #PeteforEngland on Twitter.
Meanwhile SCL Number 1 Mathew Smith is thought to be seeking an explanation from Bowls England officials as to why he has been overlooked for the National team, he was unavailable for further comment this morning but some papers are quoting him as saying "That Allcock bloke is a joker".

SCL Launch KCM Show with Mayflower
SCL Spokesman Piers Morgan this morning announced that the much anticipated show "Life of a Gardening Bowler" with SCL celebrity Keith Charbit-Middleton is set to launch on April 24th in partnership with the Mayflower Theatre and other leading venues.
Keith's debut performance will be at the Mayflower Theatre Southampton on Commercial Road near the City's Town centre where he will have support acts including Rhianna, Cheryl Cole and The Backstreet Boys. The daunting schedule will see Keith charm millions up to the last date on September 12 at Londons O2 Arena.
Adult tickets are priced at just £45-00 while Concessions can snap them up at a slashed price of £44-00 and go on sale this coming Monday.
The show will see a mixture of Comedy, Magic, Singing and Dancing in a routine described by Hello magazine as "Good". Initial figures suggest a revenue of up to 3m could be coming in for the SCL less KCM's 0.5% cut of any profits. Financial Director Buzz Aldren also advised that after a request from members some of this money will go towards improving the locker facilities in the club dressing room.

New appointments and SCL TV Asia launch
Newcomers: Schumacher (left) and Morgan
The SCL have today announced that with further expansion in mind, two new faces have been appointed to the growing team. Firstly former F1 legend Michael Schumacher has joined the board as Transport Director while the services of Piers Morgan have also been acquired.
Morgan will be a Press Officer for the group liasing directly with the Media on behalf of the SCL, while also being an official spokesperson alongside Mathew Smith. Schumacher will be managing and supporting the growing Transport section of the group as sales and reputation continue to grow in China and the Far East.
Schumacher stated to Sky Sports earlier today "Whilst i dont want to drive anymore i still want to be involved in the field in some way and this high pressure fast paced role with the SCL is perfect for me at this point in my life, besides all that the cannage is excellent and by far out-cans any other options" - Schumacher will begin his role today. Meanwhile Piers Morgan was rumoured to have started work for the company some months ago but the appointment has now been made official by Managing Director Lord Sugar who earlier said "I can confirm Piers Morgan has been appointed in a role here at the SCL, i dont like the bloke to be honest but i was out voted at the board meeting, hopefully at some point i will get the oppurtunity to say to him - 'your fired' but we shall just have to wait and see".
Meanwhile Sugar and Director of Commercial Broadcasting Pat Lawson believe that the launch of SCL TV Asia is just weeks away. The channel will show all league games live on Tuesdays and Thursdays while sharing rights with Sky on which county matches it can show on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The County Club ko and London Shield matches will continue to air on ITV4 but be available to SCL TV Asia via a live stream. 2012 - The SCL Story
London Olympics? European Championships? Queens Jubilee? End of the World? What was the real story of 2012? Yes thats right.....the SCL defended their S&D league title and made it a fab 5 in a row!
S&D LEAGUE - Following an unbeaten season in 2011, the league did not open up with the best of results as the SCL slumped 2-6 away at GE Hamble before the following 2 games v Fleming Park and Brockenhurst were rained off. However quality prevailed as straight wins v Atherley, Parkside, Eastleigh Rail, GE Hamble, Brockenhurst, Fleming Park, Atherley, Parkisde and Eastleigh Rail sealed the league title with 3 games to go! A 3-5 defeat at Banister was unfortunately how the season ended with no need to play the 2 remaining fixtures - Job done! well done to the whole club who all played their part at some point and lets make it 6 in a row next year!
L&S SHIELD - A good run in the Shield this year saw comfortable wins against Woolston and Banister Park before a late revival saw the SCL past Atherley and on to what will be remembered as a historic win v North Sheen. Prior to the match the SCL were missing 7 regulars and a further 2 pulled out the day before through ilness, but those who stepped in right up to the last available club member did a remarkable job and ran out winners 77-75. The Semi-final proved a very tough morning v Bromley and the journey for another year ended with a 19 shot defeat.
COUNTY CLUB KO - After receiving a first round walkover from Mayfield Park, a home tie v Woolston looked a great draw for the SCL to progress through to the next round. However with 16 players needed and only 15 present things did not look good until round the shadowed bush path walked the saviour Roberto Miell "The divine regular hair" who stepped in and produced a blinder in the highest winning rink as SCL took all 4 contests on the night to progress. Another seemingly straight forward game against Hedge End was hit by unavailability and despite trailing for 75% of the game, the SCL escaped another scare to make the area final v GE Hamble where from the half way mark there was only to be one winner, booking a slot in the main finals. The semi-final draw v defending champions Boscombe Cliff proved to be a mouth watering clash which ended 75-75. A dominant start saw a lead of 10-15 stabalise for most of the game up to the 19 end mark across the board before Boscombe reduced that defecit to 8 with 2 ends to go, then scoring a 5 and a 3 to level matters up before taking the crucial extra end meaning a cruel exit for the SCL and Boscombe going on to retain their title in the final.
BE DOUBLE RINK - A fantastic run in this years double rink saw storming victories over Banister Park, Romsey, Fleming Park, Alexandra Park, New Milton and Boscombe Cliff before a last end decider saw the SCL overcome Cove to reign as area winners and book a Last 16 clash with Hoult for a place at Worthing. A close game all the way through saw Hoult edge ahead just at the right time to qualify for Worthing with an end to spare, another so near so far story for the SCL but a memorable effort!
BE TOP CLUB - A comfortable opening 4-1 victory at home to Waterside was followed by 2 very tough games against Fleming Park and Eastleigh Rail, both edged 3-2 with last end victories in the fours seperating the sides. The pressure eased in the next round as the SCL eased past Banister Park 4-1 but that was to be the end of the journey as a trip away to Shanklin ended in misery with a 2-3 loss, Shanklin progressing to the area final where they defeated Fareham to qualify for Worthing.
SOUTHAMPTON OPEN - Once again this tournamnet saw dominance from the SCL! An all club affair in the pairs final saw Richard Shelley and John Keat take the title against Tony Nixon and Pete Ward jnr with Shawn Nash also making the semi-finals with Canadian John. Pat Lawson and Pete Ward snr alongside Ross Davis dominated the triples final to take the title with John Keat, Richard Shelley, Tony Nixon, Mathew Smith and Colin Thresher all also competing in the latter stages. A great effort in the singles from "single H" Phil Hunt saw him lose in the quarter-final to eventual winner Malcom De Sousa 21-14, a game at one point locked at 12-12 before De Sousa rallied home. It goes withouy saying that once again during the week, the SCL were the most sociable outfit!
MIDDLETON CUP - Hampshire failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of this years Middleton Cup but a mention to all the SCL who played their part at times - Richard Shelley, Colin Thresher, Tony Nixon, Trevor Bailey and a special mention to Michael Aldren who made his debut during the season and held his place in the team. Rumours suggesting he had been romantically involved with the team Manager were proven to be nothing more than unfounded allegations.
BUZZ ALDREN - COC! Financial Director at the SCL Michael Aldren was crowned Southampton and District Champion of Champions 2012 after a superb comeback in the final saw him recover from 6-17 down to win 21-17 against Eastleigh Rail's Jim Wood. Well done Pal!
COUNTY COMPETITIONS - Tony Nixon and Pete Ward jnr were crowned Hampshire County pairs champions while Pete also qualified in the singles and the 2-wood singles. Michael Aldren aka Buzz just missed out on Worthing in the 2-wood singles as he lost in the semi-final to Adam White. Semi-final heartache also hit both SCL fours as Phil, Pete snr, Tony and Pete jnr lost to Fareham with Shawn, Trevor Bailey, Colin and Richard being edged out by Ringwood.
WORTHING - An incredible effort at Worthing saw Tony and Pete reach the semi-final of the National Pairs where they lost to Berkshire having overcome quality opponents from Warwickshire, Dorset, Cumbria and Devon to book their spot, the greatset SCL acheivement in recent years - well done lads!
Still hungry after that for success Pete pressed on with his singles challenge where he defeated Ryan Prince and Scott Dunham before beating John Clews for a place in Englands last 8. A hard challenge against previous finalist Scott Edwards saw the end of Petes run in a 12-21 verdict but belief at the SCL is it will be Petes turn one day! The event was eventually won by Tom Bishop, a big congratulations from all at the SCL on this remarkable acheivement. A 12-15 loss saw Pete exit at the first hurdle in the 2-wood singles to Neil Corbyn from Northants in a very tight game. To end the season on a high Pete was crowned King of the SCL as he defeated Buzz Aldren in the Club Championship Final.
All in all a fantastic year for the SCL, the launch of this website among many highlights including Smithy passing his driving test! In 2013 the SCL will welcome back Ken Prior and look forward to newcomer Simon Doig joining us from Fleming Park, on top of the fact none of the current legends are going anywhere, probably the only team in Southampton who can say nobody is leaving the club, a sign of togetherness and friendship - long may it continue!

In other news Sugar advised he will be in Australia for 2 months with a view to coming back with yet more exciting news for the SCL group and announced that Michael Owens contract has been terminated with immediate effect, wishing him all the very best in his future endeavours. Reporters enquired about rumours Barry Hearn was spotted at an LA Galaxy training session during October to which CEO Jody Bright replied "He is working on something but for legal reasons we cannot comment at this time, maybe tomorrow". Finally a closing comment from Financial Director Michael Aldren advised that SCL profits are up 29% on last year and added "The new aim at the most recent board meeting is to become a Fortune 500 company by 2014, for which i see no reason this cannot be acheived"

Lord Sugar appointment brings new market oppurtunities
SCL newcomer - Sugar today
SCL Financial Director and CoC Buzz Aldren unveiled at a press conference this afternoon that the SCL have aquired the services of Alan Sugar as Managing Director after a long and lengthy period of discussions. It was initially rumoured Sugar would be taking up a role with SCL in November of last year but he decided instead at the time other projects could potentially bring in more money saying "I have been offered a role as an MD with an unamed group but when it came down to brass tax my income would have been very can based". However after some work from Aldren and Executive Director of Talent Relations Barry Hearn some 10 months later a deal has been struck. Hearn said "we had to bend the rules slightly to include some silver label Jack Daniels and a range of high quality Champagne, but we feel as a long term investment it is worth it". The announcement was delayed from earlier in the week due to unknown personal terms but Director of Fashion Development Tony Nixon shed light on the issue earlier today by saying "Alan wanted to wear a Tie when he is on official SCL duty but i stated that this was one demand we could not meet, luckily for us he accepted this after a few days and has agreed any Tie he is wearing for other reasons will be removed before he carries out any duties or appearences for the SCL". Sugar had very little to say himself at the press conference except "I have met Mr Bright and we have discussed some new ideas at length over a Coffee and a Chocolate Tiffin", a company takeover announcement is apparently "imminent" in the coming days. The press conference which was at SCL Spring Cresent HQ apparently blitzed the turnout in San Francisco for Apples long awaited iPhone 5 launch, causing the American giants to sit up and take note amid other unconfirmed rumours that an "SCLphone" is currently being researched.
Barton sacked by SCL
Barton at unamed diner in Marseille
Joey Barton has been sacked by the SCL after going AWOL since the transfer window closed on Friday 31st August.
Sources close to the SCL reported Barton had been seen in France and the hierachy had immediately sent PR Director Mathew Smith out there to look into the situation and deal with any media hype. Smith eventually caught up with Barton (Left) at an unamed local diner in Marseille where he questioned his behaviour and current professional standing with the SCL. Barton refused to comment saying "what you on about, you joker?" and proceded into the diner but it was later declared by an official spokesman that Barton is to remain in France and has entered into a deal with Olympique de Marseille in Ligue 1. The SCL will seek compensation for Barton who was still under contract in his Anger Management role for the club until October 2014, early suggestions are this role is to be removed by the SCL group.

Spaceman seals S & D Champion of Champions Crown
Spaceman - Usain Aldren
SCL Champion Buzz - aka Michael Aldren was crowned the Southampton and District Champion of Champions at Atherley last weekend during the yearly two day finals.
The early rounds had seen the Spaceman overcome Mayfield Park's Alan Cummings 21-12 before a close tie saw him defeat Jamie Hughes of Waterside 21-18 to bbok his spot.
The semi-final was first up on the Saturday last weekend when Aldren was handed a tough task against last years county singles Champion Ray Long of Fleming Park. Swiftly moving into an 11-6 lead he was then gradually pegged back by Long who continued and sneaked in front 11-15 before Aldren levelled at 15-15. A series of single shot exchanges saw it move to 20-16 in Aldren's favour when he gained the all important last shot for a 21-16 verdict.
The final saw Buzz pitted against Jim Wood of Eastleigh Rail in what proved to be a "Spec-tacular" match. Aldren settled quickly with a double and then two singles to lead 4-0, but that was quickly wiped out by Wood at 4-5 and he then surged on to a 6-17 lead over the SCL star. Aldren had during this time removed his contact lenses which were causing him discomfort and switched to his glasses thanks to some crowd assistance. The remainder of the story is very quick - he then won 21-17 taking a double to seal the title! He stated afterwards "It feels great to be a CoC, i'm well chuffed".
In other news Peter Ward jnr won the Bournemouth version of the event to also become a CoC, he is a superstar at our sister club RL (Ringwood Legends).

Nixon switched to Director of Fashion Development role
Following a meeting this evening Antony Nixon has been announced as the SCL's first Director of Fashion Development and has quickly introduced the new waterproof jacket which will be ready for the 2013 season (left). Nixon said upon leaving the meeting "I am very happy with the agreed cannage rate which shall remain confidential as i felt several people were out canning me with no justification at all", he then added "I intend to make the SCL a vibrant colourful and trendy looking bunch of chaps.....so as you can imagine there is some work to do....lots of work in fact...lots". Nixon's previous post as immediate assistant to CEO Jody Bright will now be filled by Mathew Smith who will also help with public relations although Nixon will remain the official SCL spokesperson in the absence of certain parties. Nixon flies to Milan on Monday for meetings with various designers and to visit outlets at Via Monte Napoleone, Nixon added before he left the Spring Cresent HQ "well, should be a good trip, i have an idea of what i want but you have to see whats out there, i also need to finalise details regarding an Italian silk shirt we are looking at and Badger wants me to look at some of their Italian marble fireplaces, where that would go i'm not sure".
Ward battles to singles last 8
Last 8 - Edwards and Ward
SCL's Peter Ward very quickly lifted his head after losing the Bowls England pairs semi-final and started his campaign to become the national singles champion in style yesterday morning with a 21-3 win over Cumbria's Ryan Prince of Whitehaven and swiftly followed this with another win against Scott Dunham of Carters Park, Lincolnshire 21-16. Plessey's John Clews from the Isle of Wight then stood in the way of making day 2 and the quarter-finals but Ward yet again saw his oponent off this time 21-14. This set up a last 8 clash with Scott Edwards from Hove and Kingsway in Sussex, who only 2 years ago lost in the final to Essex Steve Mitchinson and unfortunately defeated Ward 12-21 to end this years journey. Once again all at the SCL are proud, what a great effort and a fitting story for this website's 50th news article! Hopes are still alive for Pete who has his 2 wood singles to come.
Ward and Nixon make Englands last 4
Worthing masters - Nixon and Ward
Tony Nixon and Peter Ward jnr made the last 4 of the Bowls England pairs at Worthing this week, one of SCL's greatest acheivements in recent years.
A very tough opening game against Warwickshire's Graham Ashby saw them get off to a nightmare start and trail 0-12 but a spirited fightback soon saw that reduced to 12-15 and later pull level at 16-16 with a solid final few ends seeing them over the line 22-19. Next up was Martin Pavey from Dorset who won the event just 2 years ago with Jamie Lockwood but was on this occasion partnered by Steve Gait. A tight game most of the way through the early stages saw SCL just in front until dropping a 6 and slipping behind, however they then dominated to run out winners 21-13. Day 2 bought a last 16 tie against Cumbria's Rick Gallagher in what was a close game all the way before slipping 16-19 behind going into the last end and taking a 4 to win the match 20-19, booking a quarter-final spot! The hardest game yet then arrived against Devon pair Lee Haywood and James Webber but Nixon and Ward rised to the occasion in style and won 20-12 in a game they always led and had full control of. This saw them into the semi-finals against Berkshire on day 3 and through the early stages held a slender lead of between 2 and 3 shots before it levelled up at 8-8. The Berkshire pair then took a 5 to move up 8-13 before an immediate response saw the SCL move back to 12-13 with a 4 of their own. Scoring only 1 more shot over the next few ends sadly saw the pair go into the last end 13-17 down and drop a single shot on the last end but not without a great effort to take a 4 which looked possible at several points during the end but just wasnt to be. Everyone at the SCL is proud and wishes Peter Ward all the best as he lifts his head this morning and mounts a challenge for the national singles title.

Suprise Gymnastics move gets go ahead
The SCL enters its next stage of sporting evolution this winter as they form a Gymnastics team ready to take on the world in major events. Team GB's Daniel Purvis is the first major capture made by Executive Director of Talent Relations Barry Hearn who said he was "astonished by the facilities and vision within the SCL brand" and also praised SCL Director of Elite Sports Michael Jordan saying "man is legend, an inspiration and a sporting genius - like so many at the SCL". Legends spokesman Tony Nixon said during a conference call this morning "There are a few things to iron out, mainly the purchasing of some gymnastics equipment and somewhere to then put it but other than that its all go". More to follow on this story as it progresses. Also in the recovery greatly helps Sports Massage.
Darren Anderton on the bench for Thursday
Baby i'm ready to go! - Sicknote Badger
The SCL's very own "sicknote Darren Anderton" and Exectutive Director of Sporting Performance Mark Badger has a 90% chance of being fit for Thursdays visit of Parkside and is expected to be on the bench.
Badger who had been ruled out injured for the season has since been working in his executive role for the SCL and has helped raise sporting performance by an astonishing 3% which according to sport science calculations is 1 shot per match in bowls. Badger said "its been a great experience and hopefully i have done enough to convince my superiors that i can continue in the role, however i also wish to get back to playing particularly for next season and pull on that legendary yellow shirt".
Any decisions on Badgers position have been postponed until next season with rumours circulating that if he does play full-time his role may be offered to Ryan Giggs should this be last year with Manchester United. Bet365 are currently offering the best price on Badger playing a game this week at 10/1 while William Hill see the possibility as far more certain at 9/2

Plenty to play for despite double rink agony
SCL's Peter Ward jnr and Richard Shelley
SCL lost out at the final hurdle for a place at Worthing in the Bowls England double rink when losing 36-45 to Wiltshire's Hoult at Amesbury Bowls Club this past weekend.
A steady start had seen both rinks winning after a couple of ends but then the majority of the game were chasing a difference that varied between 8-14 shots. However that chasing paid off as both rinks approached the 20th end with just 3 shots seperating the two sides only to see scores of 4 and 1 go against them and have to chase 8 shots on the last end which proved too tough a task.
Despite this disappointment and the pain of the county club a week ago the SCL are still on the hunt for honours and have the semi-final of the London and Southern Counties Shield this Saturday where Bromley stand in the way of them reaching the final again and a win against Parkside in the league this week will also seal the Southampton and District Championship 1 title for a 5th straight year.

SCL to launch team in NBA
Following this mornings board meeting Sports Centre Legends have confirmed they are entering a team in America's National Basketball Association as the on-going expansion enters its most exciting stage.
The SCL were joined at the meeting by Basketball Legend Michael Jordan who has agreed to coach the team and will take up the position of Director of Elite Sports within the SCL group. The team will be named the Tigers after Mathew Smith was appointed captain by Jordan. Smith and Jordan have then selected another 11 for the first squad who will do a pre-season tour of Torquay to prepare them for life in the NBA. Jordan stated earlier "I have been looking at the lads for a couple of weeks now and there are a few fitness issues, so we need to do some work in that area but i think the magic can happen here, yeah i really do man". Meanwhile Marketing Director Brad Pitt greeted the news with open arms saying "The team vests are in production and i have pre-ordered 5000 with Jordan-23 on the back, this could be our biggest seller since Sekjer-1".
Squad for Torquay: M Smith (Captain), A Nixon, M Aldren, M Owen, R Miell, P Rathband, S Nash, J Joslin, T Bailey, P Lawson, R Shelley, P Taylor. Standby: J Bright, I Bunday

Milk found in Beer fridge
The offending Milk....
The SCL dressing room came to a standstill last night when a pint of milk was found bould as brass sitting in the team beer fridge. Early indications suggest there may have been an influence from the neighbouring dressing room, with the milk being used as a pawn in tea and coffee games but more serious allegations are that a member of the SCL had themselves put the milk in the fridge with a view to drinking a hot beverage or indeed the milk itself as a cold thirst quencher.
The milk has been impounded at the SCL headquarters and will be handed over for finger print analysis by an independant party later today. The incident has highlighted the lack of someone fully in charge of this section and as of today Shawn Nash has been announced as Director of Food and Beverages with sole responsibility of the beer fridge and will also oversee the take-away 2 pint range. Nash announced earlier today that the text messages had gone wild on Strong Winter Reserve which was the clear winner of the public vote, the second ale in the micro-brewery will be Just William, both ales will be on a 6-month trial period. Nash also stated "think i might bring in some crisps and possibly peanuts but i won't rush in to anything", he then added "this whole milk thing needs to settle down first, it's a real shambles - I mean semi-skimmed too for crying out loud, shocking".
Meanwhile SCL stamped their authority on the S & D league last night with a massive 8-0 win over Eastleigh Railway.

SCL Heartbreak In County Club Semi
It looked almost certain the SCL had done enough to reach the County Club final but suffered last minute heartbreak on an extra end against Boscombe Cliff who went on to lift the cup against Cove and become County Champions.
The SCL had got themselves in front by 19 at the half way stage with three rinks just keeping their noses in front while the other commanded a 12 shot lead. Boscome Cliff did rally to within 4 shots but a stern response from the SCL saw them lead again by 15 shots with just 12 ends left across the board. The rink of Keith Charbitt-Middleton, John Joslin, Trevor Bailey and Richard Shelley overcame Alan Gearys Boscombe quartet 22-19 while on the neighbouring rink Pete Rathband, Phil Hunt, Buzz Aldren and Jody Bright won 20-18 in a tight contest against Russell Morgan. Pete Ward jnr alongside Tony Nixon, Pete Ward snr and Pat Lawson dominated throughout and ran out winners by 8 giving the SCL a 13 shot cushion. However a spirited last few ends from Chris Daniels rink for Boscombe saw them go from 17-17 to 30-17 with a 3 on the last end against Shawn Nash, Alan Bristow, Mathew Smith and Colin Thresher ending the game tied and meaning an extra end would decide the winners. Richard Shelleys rink had been drawn to play the extra end but following an early Boscombe bowl sitting right behind the jack, it was the SCL who suffered defeat.

Centre dominate again in Southampton Open
Triples Kings (from left) Lawson, Ward and Davis
The SCL once again dominated the Southampton Open Tournament this past week scouping 2 of the 3 top prizes.
An all SCL pairs final saw Richard Shelley alongside John Keat (currently playing in Guernsey) edge out clubmates Tony Nixon and Pete Ward jnr 20-11, while Shawn Nash had also made the semi-finals with Canadian John and lost out to Ward and Nixon.
Alongside them Pete Ward snr was teaming up with The SCL Executive Director of Commercial Broadcasting Pat Lawson and Jersey's Ross Davis to take the Triples title 24-10 against Nick Hardy of Cove with John and Martyn Wise of Atherley - who had beaten Shelley and Keat with Alan Jones of Lockswood in the semi-final. The singles saw less success overall but did see the SCL's Phil Hunt reach the Quarter-final and lose to eventual winner Malcom De Sousa of Jersey in what was at one point a very close game at 12-13 before De Sousa rallied to a 21-13 win.

SCL win Area 16 in double rink
Retro SCL (from left) Smith, Badger and Le Long
SCL are through to the play off stage in the Bowls England double rink and now face Holt for a place at Worthing in the main Quarter-finals.
Shawn Nash, Jody Bright, Tony Nixon and Peter Ward led the charge with a 26-13 win which cancelled out a 17-25 loss on the neighbouring rink of Trevor Bailey, Buzz Aldren, Colin Thresher and Richard Shelley and sees the SCL progress to within 4 games of grasping the National Title.
Executive Director of Sporting Performance Mark Badger witnessed the game with reigning British Isles Champion Kevin Le Long and both were delighted with a great outcome.
In other news Mathew Smith is said to be thinking of joining the Cove club after an eventful visit, "a couple of the guys have asked me if i will join them next season" said Smith, "but to be honest i'm not sure if they could afford me, we will see what happens if an offer is layed on the table".

Ward and Nixon lift County Pairs title
SCL's Tony Nixon and contract rebel Peter Ward have lifted the Hampshire County pairs title for 2012.
The pair (pictured right) overcame Eastleigh Railway's Jason McLean and Michael Barrett to convincingly take the title 29-20.
Nixon was questioned on covering up his own sponsorship in the champions photo and simply said "too busy aren't I" and added "if my other arm could have reached without it looking dodgy i would have covered up Wardys too".
Meanwhile the BBC Sport rumours are SCL supremo Jody Bright has caved to Wards contract demands on the basis he signs a 10 year deal and it is believed the papers will be signed in the week. Bright spoke earlier to the BBC today and said "We get a good deal on some cans over in Shanklin so as long as Pete agrees to John Smiths it looks like an agreement can be reached".
Marketing Director Brad Pitt witnessed the triumph and is hopeful it will push the Ward "gold box" figure sales while the buy Nixon get Joslin offer has now been withdrawn, in its place will be a Joslin, Thresher and Charbit-Middleton 3-4-2 offer. Pitt stated "The Nixon action figure sales will rocket after this so we cant go giving Joslin free with him, instead we are trying to push the KCM brand".

Kev Le Long "come fly with me"
Honorary SCL and British Isles Fours champion Kevin Le Long flies into Southampton tomorrow morning for the week long tournament and has declared in advance "Lets get on it".
Le Long seen left with SCL Executive Director of Sporting Performance Mark Badger has been known for "crazy" and sometimes "outrageous" behaviour with SCL's Chief Executive Jody Bright among many others. Le Long quoted "Its a kids party on the Sunday so we will take it easy and then i will be assisting Badge on Sunday night with his professional duties before Monday when we just go silly".
New Director of Bowls Phil Taylor is looking forward to meeting Le Long and said "I've heard the boy is a top player and i will greet him the same as anyone, i'm not homophobic".

Hearn - Ward contract talks urgent
SCL Executive Director of Talent Relations Barry Hearn has highlighted a Peter Ward contract extension as his main priority in the coming weeks, with his current deal due to expire at the end of next season.
The SCL could risk losing Ward for nothing if a deal is not struck soon, altough they would be due compensation for development as Ward is still in the under 55's category. Ward has already turned down one offer tabled by the SCL board who may be willing to listen to offers for the former England international if an agreement cannot be reached. Sky Sports sources reported last week that Ward was offered a 5 year contract rumoured to be worth a staggering 20 cans of Bitter and a bottle of Glayva per week which was rejected. Ward is thought to be expecting something nearer a case of Bitter, a bottle of Glayva and weekly petrol costs and stated in an interview "As our best player i should be the top canner...no doubt about it". The SCL board are due to meet at the Spring Cresent HQ at 2pm today where it is believed the Ward saga will be discussed in length and a decision reached.

Taylor confirmed as Director of Bowls
Calm before the storm - Taylor this morning
After weeks of speculation Phil Taylor has been confirmed as the SCL's new Director of Bowls with immediate effect.
When Barry Hearn started with the SCL it was always his vision to bring Taylor along in some capacity, although many believed it would be in a playing role rather than an open collar shirt position. "I'm over the moon" said Taylor today, "the SCL is the fastest growing Sports brand in the world and to be part of it is a wonderful thing, I'd only been in the job 5 minutes and received the Doig news via Twitter, what more could you want on your first day?". Taylor will be working closely with both Mark Badger and Hearn with his main focus being team motivation and "Power" performance techniques.
The news has been welcomed by all at the SCL with President Alan Bristow saying "Phil and i go back a long way, its great to have him on board, i think a superb vibe will spread around the club". Taylor will be watching at next weeks Southampton Open Tournament and hoping to have an influence on all competing SCL members.

Doig to make SCL switch
New SCL addition Simon Doig
Fleming Park's Simon Doig has finally decided "F*** it .......i'm joining the SCL.....lets get on it"
After first showing interest in 2004 to become a Legend, Doig made a last minute u-turn and went to Fleming Park along with fellow Wichester City and Conservative player Luke Young (Right)
However after talks with CEO Jody Bright the time has come for Doig to make the switch to the Centre's Blue and Yellow with a fee of around £68.23 thought to have been agreed between the 2 clubs. Doig is rumoured to be on an initial 4 year - 17 can a week contract before bonuses which will see him out-can top canners like Colin Thresher (12 cans) and Keith Charbit-Middleton (3 bottles Red Wine) but sit behind top earner Mathew Smith on a crate of Strongbow a week. Doig stated "to be honest working for Carlsberg i get a few free beers so its not all about the cans".
Financial Director Buzz Aldren once again raised concern on outgoings this morning and quoted "More cans?! i think our best option now is to strike a deal directly with the brewery, the Can bill is now 17.5 crates of lager, 1 crate of Cider (Cidre for Ian Rawlinson) and 6 bottles of wine, we are already at a 9p loss on the John Smiths and things need to be reigned in".
Executive Director of Sporting Performance Mark Badger welcomed the news and said "Simon is a great player and he will also help with the Pint-per-head ratio, i look forward to working with him".
In other news the SCL ran out 6-2 winners on Parksides Astro Turf last night making them firm favourites for a 7th straight league title and their 12th in 15 years.

Magic weekend for the mighty SCL
A great weekend for the SCL kicked of with a superb win in the L & S Counties Shield 77-75 against North Sheen, despite being several players short, a superb effort from those who stepped in, 2 SCL's just the night before! Bromley are up next in the semi, lets hope we can push on and win it again!!.
Sunday morning then saw SCL progress to the area final of the double rink with a 41-32 success away at Boscombe Cliff. The rink of Trevor Bailey, Buzz Aldren, Mathew Smith and Colin Thresher got of to a flying start and settled into a 16-7 lead before a comeback from Russell Morgans rink saw them run out 20-19 winners while alongside them Shawn Nash, Jody Bright, Tony Nixon and Pete Ward jnr got into a 7-0 lead which had been cut to 10-8 at the halfway stage but eventually produced a 20-12 success with a 3 on the last end sealing the match and the neighbouring rink not playing the last end. Cove are up next this sunday evening (July 29) away at 6pm.
A short break was then followed by the area final of the county club ko on Sunday evening which resulted in a comfortable victory over GE Hamble on all 4 rinks, the SCL victors by 34 shots. Sources suggest that SCL have drawn Southsea Waverley in the semi-final which takes place on finals day August 5th at Atherley.

Badger delighted with Atherley win
Mark Badger
SCL turned in a maximum 8-0 performance against Atherley this week to the delight of Executive Director of Sporting Performance Mark Badger, report below:
"Once again i arrived to a great reception, everyone is always happy at the SCL. The beer fridge was full once again which was great to see and also the introduction of Magners to the beverage range was a welcome suprise along with the new line of snacks. Atherley did narrow the gap from an early defecit but as always strong finishing from SCL across all rinks with great concentration, i would like to see more encouragement on a performance level which i am sure will come, also a note that if you follow your bowl up screaming and shouting you must reach or you look silly. No Barton or Owen at the game not sure what happened there but i will be looking into it believe you me, all in all well done the SCL on another great result"

SCL board make example of Smith
The offending Tie...
Mathew Smith has been fined £100 for wearing a Tie to last Thursday's league game at home to Atherley - despite not receiving a warning for a first offence.
SCL official statement read "we need to come down hard on anyone wearing a Tie, it lowers the image we are trying to portray and is offensive, from now on warnings will not be given - just a fine on the spot of £100, reduced to £95 if you pay cash-on-the-hip there and then".
Smith has so far refused to pay the fine saying "I'm going to Lawyers-4-U aren't I, its illegal to fine me because i was at a job interview and thats means you are exempt from the rule, anyway i took it off when i got there before i had my salad didn't I". Lawyers-4-U are looking into whether or not to take on Smith's case and have so far made no contact with the SCL. Marketing Director Brad Pitt quoted earlier "the Smith action figure will be held from the shelves until the situation is resolved".

Hearn makes big announcements at press conference
SCL Executive Director of Talent Relations Barry Hearn announced at a press conference this morning that Brad Pitt has accepted a role with the SCL as Marketing Director and he has finalised the deal which brings Michael Owen to the centre on a pay as you play contract.....but that wasn't the big announcement!
Owen will be reserve for this evenings game at home to Atherley while Pitt will begin his role next month immediately focusing on the launch of the Sports Centre action figures and shirt sales in the middle-east.
The big news (more above) was yet to come though as Hearn announced that Phil Taylor has "agreed in principle" to a role with the club and he hoped to be able to reveal more very shortly. This mornings paper talk was that Taylor, 52 was seen in Southampton near the Spring Cresent HQ of the SCL and had been in lengthy discussions with Executive Director of Sporting Performance Mark Badger and Hearn. Sources believe Taylor will join as a player rather than a role upstairs but could feature on both fronts with the board looking at a "Director of Bowls" Taylor would seem to be the ideal choice. Financial Director Buzz Aldren spoke to Sky Sports this morning and said "This wage bill is getting big, at this rate we will have to put the green fees up from £2.50 to £3"

SCL Pitt their wits at the very top
Following several high profile arrivals in various positions at the SCL, is it possible that Hollywood legend Brad Pitt is to be offered a post with this historic grouping?
Pitt; a self confessed long term Centre fan is said to be "fed up with movies" and according to agent/attorney Alan Hergott is considering options in the UK with one in Southampton firmly on the table.
Despite SCL spokesman Tony Nixon quoting "Seriously boys? go fish" sources understand that the SCL board is keen to increase shirt sales and that "Pitt" with the number 7 could help bring in a slice of a pie they are currently missing out on.
SCL Financial supremo Buzz Aldren was quoted earlier this year saying "shirt sales have suffered since Sekjer left, that i cant deny, Sekjer with 1 on the back bought in 5.7m over 3 years....how do we get that back?" before adding "Smith - 26 is a good seller but to be honest...not that good".
Whilst the rumour mill circulates CEO Jody Bright, Barry Hearn and Mark Badger were unavaiable for comment earlier today sparking belief that Pitt may well be on his way to the UK, whether playing or not would remain to be seen. USA Today also revealed this morning that Pitt had quoted after a few Coors light last weekend "Jolie is fit, but i hear at Netball night on a Wednesday there are several pieces on offer" igniting other rumours suggesting he is to split with the average looking 37 year old. More to follow.

Barton joins Staff in Anger-Management position
Public figure Joey Barton is the latest addition to the SCL dressing room as the board continue with their radical re-shuffle.
Barton seen recently in Russia (Left) has been in talks with Bright and the board for what is believed to be "weeks" maybe "months" but not "years".
Barton will begin immediately working with all the SCL players on how to deal with "well bowled" comments from a wick, edge, glide or general lucky bowl, speaking to Sky Sports this morning Barton said "I need to draw on all my experience and pass it on, teaching these boys how to stay calm at crucial times when provoked and angered for a response, it is essential they dont do this and i am the man to show how you keep those emotions bottled up and not let them effect you, reacting badly can even lead to fines and getting banned."
The decision has had a mixed response from the SCL with Richard Shelley heard to say "This bloke is a joke at the best of times". However Barry Hearn has praised the arrival by saying "the gloves are off now, lets get ready for a fight".

Badger cleared on Tie charges
SCL Executive Director of Sporting Performance Mark Badger has been cleared of all Tie charges according to BBC Sport's website.
Footage had appeared of Badger earlier today (Left) in a Tie and alarm bells began to ring within the SCL camp. CEO Jody Bright commented "When i saw this photo via the Facebook website i was shocked, I placed faith in Mark and hoped an explanation would be forthcoming", he then added "I was with one of my advisors Tony Nixon at a social gathering in Winchester Road and had to immediately have him drive me back home to look into this".
Upon first contact Bright couldn't reach Badger and only spoke to him for the first time at todays 4pm scheduled meeting with Hearn and Nixon. The Press and Media were asked to wait outside the Spring Cresent HQ and were there for over an hour. Nixon came out and addressed the hungry reporters saying...."F**k off all of you.....except matey from the BBC". BBC Sport then released the following statement:
"After speaking with SCL spokesperson Tony Nixon it appears the photo released earlier today on the internet was one captured during 2005 - before Mark Badger was with the SCL and indeed a long time before he was issued with his current role by Mr Bright".
Badger himself added "Whilst i never intended this footage to be public and it was before my SCL days i would like to apologise to all SCL and my followers who have supported me for ever wearing this Tie".

A further 3 players banned from the SCL
Owen is Hearns first target
After an injury hit spell at Manchester United resulted in Micheal Owen being released at the end of last season the offers haven't exactly been flooding in for the 32 year old former England International.......until now.
SCL's new Executive Director of Talent Relations Barry Hearn has tabled an offer for Owen to join the SCL on a pay as you play deal leaving it in Owens hands if he wants to make the switch to Bowls.
Owen took to social network site Twitter to respond earlier and said "This is a great offer, Barry is a true professional who i admire and respect, whilst being a part of the SCL would be a real honour", he then added "I will take time to think about it and not rush into a decision, it might be that i begin the deal for the 2013 season".
Tony Nixon heard of the news this morning during Centre Legends FM studio training and was delighted at the thought of Owen joining saying "That would be great for betting tips, i'll be minted within a season". SCL Financial Director Buzz Aldren also welcomed the news and stated "It would break the bank....literally.....to have him on a full time deal but the pay as you play offer works well for both of us, in fact we are kind of taking him for a mug in many respects with the 1 can per good end offer". There was less enthusiasm from Mark Badger who said only "what a crock of s**t" as he held his hand in front of Sky Sports cameras.

Hearn announced in Talent Relations role
Sports Centre Legends have aquired the services of Barry Hearn as Executive Director of Talent Relations, responsible for supporting and guiding Centre Legends, dealing with players contracts and helping scout for future Legends.
Hearn said at this mornings press conference "the Snooker and Darts is ok i guess but this is a fresh challenge and i hope to help take this bunch of legends to the very top". he added "I will go to the Banister game this Thursday to meet the lads and i dont mind doing the beer running if need be". It is rumoured that SCL failed in an attempt to get first choice for the role Simon Cowell who has instead opted to continue on the American X Factor. SCL spokesman quoted "we did speak to Simon regarding the role but his demands were quite high and the cheeky bugger even wanted paying, so it made the decision easy and we turned to Barry". Hearn also announced at the press conference that Phil Taylor will be at the neutral green stage of the County Club against GE Hamble to help with pre match motivation.

Double Rink success clouded by Tea farce
Centre Legends produced another great display in the double after seeing off New Milton by 26 shots progressing to the last game in the lower section of Area 11 and now face a stern test against Boscombe Cliff.
Comfortable wins for both rinks Nash, Bright, Nixon, Ward and Bailey, Smith, Thresher, Shelley sealed the win which was all but over at the half way stage.
However the win was clouded by an incident involving Centre Legend Jody Bright being spotted before the game with a mug of Tea. Bright initially denied the rumours saying "I don't think so do you?" before Shawn Nash revealed he had captured photo evidence (Left). Bright, CEO of Centre Legends has been given a warning but the club say they cannot take it any further as it cannot be proven that it was Tea in the mug and Bright himself stated "On the JD and coke wasn't I". A Centre Legends spokesman said "This incident will be forgotten and no further action taken, Mr Bright will continue in his capacity as Legends CEO".

Ward through in Singles and Pairs avec Nixon
Pete Ward jnr completed a fab four when qualifying for the last 8's in the singles and pairs to match his 2-wood and fours qualification.
A 21-8 victory over Alan Forrest snr kicked the weekend off on Friday night and an 18-6 win with fellow legend Antony Nixon over Atherleys Steve Saunders and Gary Carter swiftly followed, despite Ward playing the worst bowl of his career 9 yards short (pictured left).
All last 8's qualifiers can be seen in the Results/Fixtures section, which will unfortunately for the competitors take place at Atherley w/c July 16.

Badger hails Fleming victory
Mark Badger attended his first game as Centre Legends new Executive Director of Sporting Performance last night in a strong 7-1 win over Title "Rivals" Fleming Park. Comfortable wins for the rinks of Shawn Nash, Pat Lawson, Iain Bunday and Colin Thresher alongside Keith Charbit-Middleton, Roy Alford, Mathew Smith and Richard Shelley were backed up by a superb win for Ian Rawlinson, Pete Ward, Trevor Bailey and Pete ward jnr who hit a near 30 shot win against County Singles Champion Ray Long. A single point consolation came for Fleming as the rink of Pete Rathband, Phil Hunt, Michael Aldren and Jody Bright fell on the last end. +50 shots COYY.
Badger who watched from the Hut had the following to say "I got a great reception on arrival, and it was nice to see the beer fridge full, thanks go to Jody and Shawn for that. The lads looked well dressed and smart and after 4 ends all rinks were winning, plenty of encouragement and a win always looked on the cards. KCM had to change one of his bowls after delivering one without a sticker but these things happen, Thresher asked me at 12 ends if i was doing my job, I told him he should be concentrating on his game. At the 12 end mark the game was over with just Brighty's rink a few behind who pulled level by 18 by which time even smithy had bowled one, 7-1 a great result and my first recommendation is to keep the team the same. Special thanks to Ian Rawlinson, Trevor Bailey and Iain Bunday for their efforts with travel".

Honorary Centre Legend wins British Isles Fours Title!
After news of becoming an honorary Centre Legend inspired the fortunes of Kevin Le Long life has just become even sweeter!
His Jersey quartet – Ian Partridge, Darren Clark, Centre Legend Le Long and skip Didier Le Falher (known to Centre Legends as the Crazy Frog) – were shock winners of the British Isles men’s fours title on the Rock Park greens in the Mid Wales spa town of Llandrindod Wells last Friday.
Finding themselves pitted against Guernsey in the semi-finals, a straight win over their inter-insular rivals would have been enough to send them home happy.
But, not only did they dispatch Kris Bichard, Todd Priaulx, Ricky Brehaut and Dan de la Mare, 17-16, on the last end of an engrossing encounter, they went on to win the title with a 17-15 win over the Alan Price and his English champions, from Maidenhead, Berkshire. Le Long quoted "Well, what can i say? cheers boys".

Fosters can found on Hill Lane near Common
Centre Legends have been cleared of all accusations following the discovery of a can of Fosters on Hill Lane near the far area of Southampton Common.
Fingers had been pointed by Police and local residents that following the opening of the Centres new stunning bar facilities, that someone had come away after a night out at the club and "thrown" the can into the woodland area.
Following investigation Police can confirm it was a middle aged male who threw the can - actually heading towards the Centre from the other end of Hill Lane although where he had been is unknown.
The Police spokesman said in a press conference "We are sorry to have pointed the finger so early but glad to have got to the bottom of this". It is believed that an eye witness visiting the local area from Kent stepped forward to clear Centre Legends of any wrong doing. Hall of Famer Mathew Smith in the area near the time of the incident said "Can't have been me....I drink Strongbow at the moment".

"Hi Peter, great to hear from you. I am happily settled in a Victorian cottage in the little village of East Langdon, just outside Dover, this gives me good access to the ferries and Eurotunnel for my travels. I have joined Keasney Bowls Club and am enjoying the outdoor season very much. I may join Folkestone for the indoor season, also in the village hall there is short mat bowling twice a week all the year round so i am not short of oppurtunities! I am delighted to hear that the Sports Centre goes from strength to strength, best wishes to you and all the members".

Busy weekend brings joy and sorrow
After a superb 7-1 win in the league away at Brockenhurst last Thursday the weekend kicked off with the Top Club away at Shanklin on Friday night where unfortunately the 2012 journey for the Centre Legends came to an end. A win for Buzz Aldren in the 2 wood singles had got the Legends of to a great start but this was soon levelled out at 1-1 with Peter Ward jnr suffering a loss in the singles. All 3 remaining games were close right up until the end with the pairs narrowly winning (Shawn Nash and Colin Thresher) while the triples (Keith Charbit-Middleton, Tony Nixon and Richard Shelley) and fours (Trevor Bailey, Phil Hunt, Mathew Smith and Jody Bright) were behind by 5 and 4 shots respectively. The pairs held on for a 1 shot win but defeat was suffered by both the triple and four who couldnt claw back their defecit.
On Sunday morning however the Legends bounced back to progress in the London and Southern Counties Shield with a victory over Banister Park. At the Centre the march was led by a superb 25 shot victory for Peter Wards rink alongside Richard Shelley who notched a 1 shot victory while at Stoneham Lane Jody Brights rink drew 18-18 and Colin Thresher went down 14-19 all in all a 21 shot win for the yellows, Atherley are up next on July 14 at 10am.
Sunday evening saw both the Centres remaining fours in action for a place in the last 8's. Nash, Bailey, Thresher and Shelley defeated Derek Walkers Eastleigh Railway rink with ends to spare while Hunt, Ward, Nixon and Ward had to sweat right up until Paul May's last bowl in a final end victory to see them through.

4 Local men banned from ever joining Centre Legends:
Badger to be offered Executive role
Due to injury problems it has been a frustrating season for Centre Legend Mark Badger, watching from the sidelines and spanking the odd Fosters.
After an executive meeting this morning the Legends Board have decided to offer Badger the position of "Executive Director of Sporting Performance" concentrating on first team performances starting with the away trip to Shanklin this Friday in the Top Club. Badger will report back to the board with evaluations and suggestions. "This is great news for me, a way of getting involved with the team and help to put the club on the right foot going forward". He added "it's all about balance really...getting it right". Badgers salary is thought to possibly reach the 6 cans a week mark based on performance results, which will see him 'out-can' Shawn Nash who signed a new deal earlier this month.

Rathband discovers Internet
Sports Centre veteran Pete Rathband, returning back "Home" this season to the Centre Legends has become an online wizard after discovering the Internet this past few months and is soon to release a book.
After first of all buying a laptop and getting broadband connection Rathband signed up for an e-mail address then quickly moved to join Facebook and create the event "Peter Rathband". Since then he now has shares in Zuckerbergs company and is head of Internet Marketing, but this will apparently not get in the way of Centre Legends appearences...."I work from home....mainly Mondays and get the lot done, which leaves the rest of the week free to join the Legends" said Rathband. The Book "Incurring the Rath of Pete" is set for release in late August.

Mixed joy at first of County Area Finals
In an unfortunate game where 2 legends had to meet each other Buzz Aldren gained a 2 shot victory over Shawn Nash to book his spot at the last 8's of the 2-wood singles where he will be joined by fellow legend Pete Ward (jnr) who overcame Banister's Barry Bendall to claim his place. The other Centre legends were competing in the triples (Trevor Bailey, Colin Thresher and Richard Shelley) but unfortunately lost out to Fleming's Andy Anderson, Simon Doig and Ray Long 20-18. This Sunday will be the second lot of games in which we will have 2 fours competing: Phil Hunt, Pete Ward, Tony Nixon and Pete Ward (jnr) will play Paul May's Banister team as well as Shawn Nash, Trevor Bailey, Colin Thresher and Richard Shelley who will compete against Derek Walkers team from Eastleigh Rail. Pete Ward jnr is also in the singles area-final and he joins Tony Nixon in the pairs area-final which are yet to be arranged. COYY!
Centre march on in double rink
A 26 shot victory at Alexandra Park has booked the Legends an Area Semi-final clash with New Milton. The rink of Trevor Bailey, Mathew Smith, Colin Thresher and Richard Shelley got of to a flying start and at one point led 19-3 in a 24-12 verdict. The other rink of Shawn Nash, Jody Bright, Antony Nixon and Pete Ward started slower but ran out comfortable victors 21-7, the game was conceded with ends to spare. The game away to New Milton will be for a place in The Area semi-final, date and team will appear in the results/fixtures section when known.

Police seek Bright Imposter
Hampshire Police are liasing with constabularies over Great Britain after an imposter was spotted on Sky Sports claiming to be Sports Centre Legend Jody Bright during the Premier League Darts campaign.
The man pictured left is known in the darts circle as John, and has been at several Major darts events in 2012. The story that he was assuming Bright's identity came to light after the Premier League in Bournemouth when Centre Legend Ian Rawlinson spotted the man talking to someone and saying "yeah thats me......there's only 1 Jody Bright". Rawlinson later contacted Bright who was in touch immediately with local Police. Bright stated "...to be fair i don't blame the guy really but i want an end to this fiasco and hopefully £10-£20 compensation".
Information line is 0800 800 800 should anyone have any information or if they have recently seen this man.

Area Final of County Club KO!
Sports Centre Legends are through to the area final of the County Club KO after victory over Hedge End. The win was led by rink wins for Charbitt-Middleton, Joslin, Smith, Shelley as well as Rathband, Lawson, Aldren and Nixon, defeats were suffered on the night for Blake, Hunt, Ward, Ward and Nash, Bristow, Bailey, Thresher but the end result was a 12 shot victory for the team. A walkover in the first round seemed like the perfect start against Mayfield Park before nearly having to give the game away in the next round v Woolston! At the start time Centre were 1 legend short of a team but all ended well after Bob Miell walked round the corner, got his kit on and turned in a stunning performance for Grumpo in what was a 40+ shot win for the team. Sources suggest the opponents in the final are GE Hamble who turned Banister Park over in the other semi (unconfirmed). Come on you Yellows!
Smith and Aldren in Shoe-gate scandal
Tensions were high at last nights league victory over GE Hamble at The Centre after a shoe belonging to Buzz Aldren dissappeared in the changing room.
Initial suggestions from the masses were that the Joker Mathew Smith had taken it but he angrily denied the accusation and the hunt for the missing shoe went on. After several minutes passed by, the shoe was discovered by Colin Thresher who passed it back to Buzz. "See i told you it wasn't me Buzz Aldren, you shouldn't have blamed me - it was that Colin Thresher who took it". Thresher dismissed this accusation and said "Eh?". It is believed later that evening at The Winston, Smith confessed to a selected few that he had actually taken the shoe. The committee will of course conduct a full investigation into this very serious matter and then ask Mr Aldren if he wishes to take legal action for "Loss of shoe". The two seen above during happier times have been advised not to contact each other.

League revenge over GE Hamble
Sports Centre Legends gained revenge for the opening night defeat at Hamble with a 7-1 victory. That night, a 2-6 defeat remains the clubs only 1st team defeat this season. Good wins for Charbitt-Middleton, Joslin, Smith and Shelley alongside Rathband, Hunt, Aldren and Bright set up the win with Nash, Alford, Bunday and Thresher also taking a good point. Despite a battling performance from Rawlinson, Ward, Bailey and Ward in a game tight all the way through they entered the last end 2 down and dropped a single to lose by 3, the overall margin however was comfortable in the 30 shot region, leaving Centre at the summit of the table.
Nash agrees contract extension
Sports Centre record signing Shawn Nash - who moved last season for £34.50 from Fleming Park is said to be delighted so far at the Legends Arena and has signed a new 2 season contract believed to be worth 4 cans of John Smths a week. This will make him the clubs second highest beer earner behind CEO Jody Bright and Hall of Famer Mathew Smith on a case of Fosters and Strongbow respectively.
"It wasn't a hard decision" said Nash, "This is a group of Legends i want to be part of for some time to come and work on getting on it each year, i also want to maximise the usage of my lovely new bowls bag" (pictured above).

Aldren fined for wearing a Tie
Sports Centre Legends head of finance Buzz Aldren aka Spaceman will have to ironically pay himself a fine after being once again caught in a Tie following an official warning.
Back in May this year Aldren was given an official warning for turning up to a league game in a Tie and that if repeated in the public eye a fine would be imposed.
Aldren (Left) has accepted the fine which will be in the region of £64.24. It is thought the original fine was £100 but a deduction of £15.83 was made on the basis that a beer was being consumed at the same time and a further relief of £19.93 if Aldren attends regular meetings at the group "The consequences of wearing a Tie".
Aldren said in an official statement "I realise what i have done is wrong, it was an oversight and my apologies go to all my fellow Legends". Head of fines John Joslin added "This had to be imposed, Ties are so yesterday".

Smith made Hall of Famer
Mathew Smith was inducted into the Sports Centre Hall Of Fame this past week by long serving veteran Antony Nixon. Nixon stated "Mathew has been a fantastic addition to the club in so many ways, he raises the Pint-per-head ratio significantly from 2.7 to 4.2". He then added "Its nothing but pushing for 5 per head from here". Mathew was stunned and silent but thanked the club and its players for their on going support.
